Why register in DRIVER?
- End-users/researchers may specify additional preferences to narrow down search results associated with their research interests. This may be accomplished in several ways: store queries which are then run periodically in the background, and users are notified when there is any change in the corresponding results (e.g. due to harvesting of new documents); subscribe to communities so that their queries may be filtered through the assigned collections; define additional filters to be used in subsequent queries(e.g. specify date ranges for the latest papers/documents, idenrify subjects that may be of particular interest, etc.).
- Repository managers who want to keep track of their repository status within the DRIVER Information Space may utilize the above functionalities for monitoring purposes. In the near future, registered repository managers will be granted additional rights to run the DRIVER Validator on their published data and follow their repository conformance to the DRIVER guidelines.
Who should register? All individual researchers or repository managers who may take advantage of the functionalities described above.
What can we expect in future enhancemnents? In the next release of the DRIVER infrastructure users will be able to enjoy further personalized functionalities. More specifically there are plans for:
- extending user profiles to include preferences to broaden the personilized services
- allowing users to define their own collections, and make use of bookmarking techniques on documents
- allowing users to create and manage their own communities while giving them the option to invite other users to subscribe to them
- allowing registered users to be part of private or public DRIVER communities where more collaborative work can take place
- generating personalized recommendations and alerts based on distinct user preferences or community based behaviour
- allowing users to produce links and perhaps annotations on documents and other types of data objects
