What are collections? The DRIVER Information Space gathers documents from different scientific subjects and from distinct geographical areas. DRIVER collections offer a way to organize such heterogeneous Space into a hierarchy of sets whose documents share similar features and properties. They are mostly dynamic, i.e., the number of documents changes as documents enter or leave the Information Space.
Who can create collections? Currently, collections are “public”, i.e. defined by DRIVER administrators, and we urge you to provide us with some feedback on what types of collections may be useful to your group or work (please send us your request at helpdesk@driver-support.eu).
How can collections be used? End-users may choose to run queries over certain collections, thus improving the precision of their search results.
What can we expect in future enhancemnents? In the next release of the DRIVER infrastructure, registered users will be able to define their own private collections, saving them for their future use and sharing them with other users belonging to the same community. Collections may also contain "bookmarks" to specified documents. Furthermore, through the subscription to corresponding communities, search results, alerts and recommendations may be improved for registered users (e.g., change the ranking of results based on collections, notify users when changes occur within a collection, recommend collections to users within the same community).
